China is one of the world's oldest civilisation. This year (2011) is the 4,706th year in the Lunar calendar!

In the older days, there were Kings and Queens.

The King was the most powerful person in the country. He lived in a huge palace and enjoyed a luxury life.

The colour of yellow and the dragon represents the King.

There were no Kings anymore about 100 years ago and China has a government instead.

Today, you can still see one of the palaces in Beijing. There are 999 rooms in there!
